A new report by Human Rights Watch details how the Uganda Oil Pipeline Project impoverishes tens of thousands of farmers, fuels land seizures, and affects farmers’ livelihoods.

According to the report, the project will displace more than 100,000 people, has resulted in food insecurity and household debt, caused children to drop out of school, and is likely to have devastating environmental consequences. In addition, the pipeline route traverses sensitive ecosystems, such as protected areas and internationally significant habitats, posing threats to biodiversity and ecosystems upon which local communities depend for sustenance.
